Why Did I Start The Fab Style Files?

“Why start yet another lifestyle blog?” This question resonated in my mind for weeks before I started The Fab Style Files, and to be honest, weeks afterwards too. Blogs have always interested me, I read and follow ones that inspire me, make me think, engage and uplift me. Why did I need to start my own blog? I’ll tell you why I did it for myself and for others like me too.

Personal Journey

Shortly before beginning The Fab Style Files, I created a YouTube channel, you can check that out here. The channel showcases my love for all things hair and beauty. I’m an avid wig wearer, I love the way they change up your look and style without commitment. As I began trying these new styles, I thought, wouldn’t it be awesome if I documented all my style trials? Fab Style Files began as a personal journey to love the skin I’m in. No regrets, no excuses. I wanted to be comfortable as me. You only get one body and one life. Why spend your time hating the cards you got dealt? Having a blog allows me to share this journey, the complete experience, without necessarily being limited to hair and beauty.

We Can All Win

Have you ever heard the saying “I’m not interested in competing with anyone I hope we all make it”? I believe this to be 100% true. This is a big reason I started my blog. Yes, there’s plenty of lifestyle and beauty blogs. However, there’s only one me. The internet is great because there’s space for all of our voices to be heard. I didn’t let the fact that there are so many blogs deter me. Greatness does not come from the comfort zone you are used to. You are your own kind of amazing, let the world see that. I promise there’s room for all of us to win.

Passion = Purpose?

You hear a lot about people finding their purpose. For years, I struggled with the purpose question. I never felt I could answer the question adequately. Or at least give people an answer that sounded like it fit into society’s nice neat box. It’s been said that when you find your passion, it will lead you into your purpose. Beauty, hair and wigs are my passions, sure, but I realized I have a lifelong love of reading and writing. From a young age, my mother instilled the love of reading in me. I’m thankful for that because I’ve never stopped reading. Writing my words down and having them being read by others give me great joy! Writing is something you can do with or without anyone’s approval. Having my own blog gives me an outlet to do so.

There you have it, the top 3 reasons I started The Fab Style Files. I am so excited to have you on this journey with me. There’s no place I’d rather be. Stick around because there’s more to come. This is only the beginning.

  1. I love your reasoning and purpose for writing. I agree that there is room for everyone to express themselves the way they want to because we all are different. No ones expression will be the same. We all truly can win if we are doing something that we enjoy.
    I also love the way that this was written! xoxo

  2. You said that well, there really is no reason to treat this as a competition when there’s room for us all. I strongly identified with your post. It was wonderfully written.

  3. “You only get one body and one life…” so true! We have to enjoy what we’re given and make it shine. Even in a world where it seems as though everyone is blogging all of our voices matter. Glad you find joy in following your passions Lachelle!

  6. Well said and loved everything you said, especially with the competition part. I do want to see all of us win and love supporting others along with my journey.

  7. I love this so much, especially the part about passion and purpose. I know what I’m passionate about but not sure if that is my purpose. But like most things in life, time will tell.
